Mackinac Island, July 14, 2015
Eleven Macatawa Bay Yacht Club boats participated in the Chicago to Mackinac race this year against three hundred forty four competitors. Every boat represented our club well with three bringing home flags and one earning line honors.
Conditions on the South half of the lake were light with a large hole off Sleeping Bear that seemed to swallow everyone. Once boats made it through the Manitou Passage, breeze filled in and it was an awesome ride….until the bridge. The last five miles from the bridge to the island were slow due to winds going light.
Two of our boats continued through the finish line and raced the 500 mile Super Mac.
The results are:
Sante! – 11th in Division 36.7. (Fastest boat to the island on corrected time).
Roxy – 3rd in Crusing Division 1.
Whitecap – 17th in Crusing Division 1.
Utah – 3rd in J111 Division.
Trippwire – 3rd in Section 2.
Tyrant – 8th in Section 2
Willie J – 11th in Section and 6th in Super Mac Class 2.
Sufficient Reason – 6th in Section 4
Gauntlet – 10th in Section 5 and 2nd in Super Mac Class 2 (2nd overall)
Heartbreaker – 6th in Turbo Division
Windquest – 7th in Turbo Division and fastest to the island, line honors.
