BYC Mackinac

Macatawa Bay Yacht Club was represented by five boats in the Bayview Yacht Club Mackinac race which started in Port Huron and finished at Mackinac Island. The crews were faced with a wide range of conditions from little to no wind, to winds that approached 50 knots in a fairly intense storm. Bob Hughes’ Heartbreaker was the first monohull to finish while Roxy and Utah competed in the double-handed class. The first leg finished with a nice reach to the Cove Island buoy, but the final stretch to Mackinac Island was upwind into a fresh breeze which turned out to be quite a challenge for Brad and Ian Faber onboard Utah as their wind instruments stopped working with 30 hours of racing left and the leach of their mainsail tore. In the end, Roxy, skippered by Don Condit, prevailed with a first and Utah finished in second place.
