Commodores Cup Results

Commodores Cup Winners

The Commodore’s Cup is MBYC’s signature offshore event, and was held on June 17 and 18 on the near shore waters of Lake Michigan.  The fleet of 25 boats saw fantastic sailing conditions for two days, which resulted in very competitive racing in all 4 classes.  The MBYC race committee volunteers, led by Barb Gamache and JD Stone, managed the shifting breeze and the different classes with ease.  Thanks to all the volunteers for a great effort!  Also a very special thanks to “Coppercraft Distillery!”. Their partnership with MBYC, for the second year running, allows us to plan for a first class experience for our skippers and crew!  If you have not stopped by to sample their newly added food menu, you should.  Combined with the hand crafted cocktails, it is a great experience!
The J35 “Hat Trick” from Muskegon YC was the overall Cup winner, dominating PHRF 2 with 5 bullets.  “Utah,” owned by MBYC member Brad Faber, won PHRF 1 via a tie-breaker on points with Mitch Padnos and Sufficient Reason.  Utah also earned second place overall, and the “Hollis Baker” trophy.

VX One Great Lakes Championship:

Macatawa Bay Yacht Club hosted in conjunction with the Commodores Cup, the 3rd VX One Great Lakes Championship where sailors enjoyed great sailing conditions on Saturday and Sunday and great social time at the Club.  There were 10 VX’s on the starting line, with sailors coming from Connecticut, Ohio, and Ontario to participate in this year’s Championship.  4 races were held on Saturday with winds coming out of the south ranging from 8-12 knots.  Racing concluded early Sunday afternoon after 2 races in steady breeze from the Southwest ranging from 12-15 knots.  MBYC’s Sam Padnos and Grant Goeman finished at the top of the pack with 7 points, followed by Ched Proctor, Jeff Eiber, and LJ Nykamp finishing 2nd with 10 points.  John Arendshorst and JP Del Solar Goldsmith rounded out the top three with 13 points.  We had fantastic racing conditions and race management.  Thanks again to all of the volunteers, Race Committee, and Yacht Club staff for making this a wonderful event.
