“MBYC was ably represented at the 2018 S2 7.9 Class Championship Regatta by skippers Tom Bryant, Scott Derby, and Peter Schwarz. The event was hosted by Ford Yacht Club, located on Lake Erie in Grosse Ile, Michigan. 26 7.9s participated, with boats traveling from Kentucky, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Ohio. Three days of racing were scheduled, however winds in excess of 25 knots limited racing on day 2 and prohibited racing on day 3. A total of 5 races were sailed. Peter Schwarz, with Alex Post calling tactics, finished 7th with a strong 1st place finish in race #5. Tom Bryant with Chris Belliet, Angie Dalman, Mary Bryant, and Tanner Bryant finished 6th, with a 3rd place in Race #1. 2017 Champion Scott Derby finished the regatta tied for 2nd with regatta chairman Cary Diehl, secured 2nd place through the tie-breaker. The 2018 7.9 Class Champion is Tyson Connolly from Port Huron YC.

Twenty-six teams gathered for the 2018 S2 7.9 Class Championship on September 7 to 9 in Grosse Ile Township, MI. Tyson Connolly’s team on Fun Uncle stumbled with an 8th in the first race, but cleaned it up the rest of the way to take the five point victory. Only one point separated the next three teams with Scott Derby in second and Cary Diehl claiming third. Strong winds on Lake Erie allowed for racing on the first two days but gusts over 30 knots cancelled racing on day three.
